Tooth whitening can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any tooth surface. It cannot make a complete colour change, but it may lighten the existing shade.
Standard tooth-whitening involves several visits, the first to take impressions for custom-made moulds. Once these have been made you will need a second appointment to apply the whitening gel and your dentist will supervise and explain the procedure. You will need to continue the treatment at home, this means regularly applying the whitening gel using the moulds over two to four weeks for approximately 2-4 hours at a time.
Some teeth may not be suitable for whitening treatment, and your dentist will be able to advise you at your consultation appointment.
